How to calculate your grade
Almost every class grade is a weighted average. Each category — homework, quizzes, tests, projects, the final exam — carries a percentage from your syllabus, and your overall grade is the sum of each category score multiplied by its weight.
Grade = Σ (category score × category weight) ÷ Σ (weights entered) × 100- 1

Suppose homework is worth 20% and you have an 88%, quizzes are worth 15% and you have a 91%, and tests are worth 40% and you have an 83%. The final exam (25%) has not happened yet.

64.45 ÷ 75 × 100 = 85.93%, a B. To finish the class with an A (90%) you would need 90 − 64.45 = 25.55 points from a final worth 25, which is 102.2% — just out of reach. A B is comfortably secure.

Multiply each assignment score by its weight, add those results together, and divide by the total weight you have entered. For example, a 90% on homework worth 20% contributes 18 points, and an 80% on tests worth 40% contributes 32 points, giving 50 points out of the 60% graded so far — a 83.3% grade. The calculator above does this for you as you type.
Keep the calculator in Percentage weights mode and enter each category with the weight from your syllabus, such as Homework 20%, Quizzes 15%, Tests 40%, and Final Exam 25%. Leave the score blank for anything you have not been graded on yet. Your grade is calculated over the weight that has actually been graded, which is how most gradebooks show a running grade mid-semester.
Leave your final exam row blank, pick the letter grade you are aiming for, and the calculator solves for the exact score you need. If it reports more than 100%, that grade is no longer reachable with a perfect final. If it reports 0% or less, you have already secured it.
