How to Calculate a Weighted Grade

A weighted grade gives each assignment a different slice of your final mark. Multiply each score by its weight, add the results, and divide by the total weight:

Weighted grade = (Score₁ × Weight₁ + Score₂ × Weight₂ + …) / Total weight

Example:Homework 95% (weight 20%) and Tests 80% (weight 40%) give (95 × 0.20) + (80 × 0.40) = 19 + 32 = 51 points. Over the 60% of the course graded so far, that's a 85% weighted grade.

Percentage Weights vs. Points-Based Grading

Percentage weights are syllabus categories — Tests 40%, Homework 20%, Participation 10%, Final 30%. Points-based classes instead total raw points: a 100-point exam, a 20-point quiz, a 50-point project. Both are weighted grading; the calculator switches between them with one toggle, so match whichever your gradebook shows.

The Weighted Final Exam Formula

Required final = (Target × Total weight − Weighted points earned) / Final weight

Example:you've earned 62.6 weighted points, the final is worth 30%, and you want a 90%: (90 − 62.6) / 30 = 91.3% needed on the final. The solver above runs this live for every row you enter — no need to average categories by hand first. If you only know your current grade as a single number, the final grade calculator solves the same question from that starting point, and the weighted gradebook calculator is built for syllabus category averages.
